In September 2023, Fair Trials published an article that was critical of the Think Family Education application developed by Insight Bristol and the creator of the application, Gary Davies. Based on this piece, the Guardian newspaper published an article repeating the criticism.
The Fair Trials Board received a complaint from Gary Davies in October, 2023, claiming that the information that Fair Trials and the Guardian published was inaccurate.
The Board found that the complaint merited a response and conducted an investigation. Fair Trials removed the piece from its website while this investigation was ongoing.
The investigation concluded that there were significant methodological weaknesses in the research conducted and that the article was indeed inaccurate. This work did not meet our high standards for quality evidence-based research. We have taken steps to improve the process for publication of our research going forward.
Fair Trials has apologized to Gary Davies, retracts the analysis, and will not repost the article. Fair Trials has also notified the Guardian of this conclusion.
